The MAK, founded in 1863 under Emperor Franz Joseph is one of the most grandiose buildings on Vienna’s Ringstraße. Located between the nearby Stadtpark and the University of Applied Arts, the MAK ranks among the most important museums of its kind worldwide. The MAK houses a unique collection of precious arts and crafts from the fields of furniture, glass, porcelain, silver, and textile dated from the middle ages until today. A museum highlight is the exhibition "Vienna 1900" with masterpieces of the Wiener Werkstätte by Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser as well as design icons by Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos. At the MAK DESIGN LAB historical objects from the collection and contemporary productions enter into an intensive dialogue. In addition, the MAK regularly presents nomeroustop-class temporary exhibitions from the fields of art, design and architecture.
