Behind the scenes of the opera - experience the Theater an der Wien
The Theater an der Wien is one of Vienna's most traditional theatres - and on this exclusive backstage tour, it opens its doors for a look behind the scenes. Built in 1801 by Emanuel Schikaneder, the librettist of Mozart's Magic Flute, this theatre has written over two centuries of music history - and is now in demand internationally as a stagione opera theatre.
The tour begins in the magnificent auditorium and takes you into hidden areas that are normally closed to the general public. Find out more about great artistic moments, legendary performances and the development of the theatre up to the present day.
A highlight of the tour: the ascent to the new interval foyer ‘Himmel’ with a balcony view over the Naschmarkt - a place where history and the present merge in a unique way.
Please note: The backstage area is not barrier-free - sturdy shoes and a certain degree of surefootedness are recommended.
