Author: 1000things
Are you visiting Vienna for the first time and want to get an overview? Or do you already know the city's picturesque alleyways inside out and like to get a bird's eye view? Here we show you our favorite viewpoints in Vienna.
Whether it's the Viennese vineyards, time-honored landmarks or drinks with a view: Don't miss out on a view of the Viennese skyline during your visit. Here we reveal where you can enjoy the best views over Vienna.
Tip: Grab a Vienna Welcome Card, as it gives you great discounts on Vienna's public transport and even discounts at some locations.
Kahlenberg
When we think of the most beautiful view in Vienna, the Kahlenberg is definitely top of the list. If the weather is kind to you, you can not only enjoy a fantastic panorama of the city from a height of 484 meters, but you can even see as far as the Schneeberg in Lower Austria. Combine your visit with a short hike. You can reach your destination in around four hours via the Vienna City Hiking Trail 1. Once you reach the top, you can reward yourself with culinary delights at the Skyline Restaurant or stop off at one of the many wine taverns along the way. A more comfortable way to reach the jewel in the Vienna Woods is to take the 38A bus, which takes you from Heiligenstadt to the top in comfort.
Tip: With the Vienna Welcome Card, you can use the Wiener Linien public transport system completely free of charge.
Jubiläumswarte
We love Vienna's city hiking trails. That's why we don't want to deprive you of this panoramic treat. The Jubiläumswarte on Wilhelminenberg awaits you at the end of city hiking trail number 4. You can reach the viewing platform at a height of 31 meters via 183 steps. And spoiler: This mini-workout pays off. On a clear day, the view extends across the Vienna Woods and the entire city of Vienna as far as the Leithagebirge and Schneeberg. Tip if you're in a hurry: Take the 46A or 46B buses to the fire station at Steinhof or Savoyenstraße. This saves you a large part of the walk and limits your hike to around 20 minutes.
Ferris wheel
For a fantastic view of Vienna combined with a ride on one of the city's oldest landmarks, try the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel. Incidentally, the Giant Ferris Wheel in the middle of the Wurstelprater is a real movie star and has already been seen in classics such as “The Third Man” and “James Bond 007 - The Touch of Death”. This alone makes a ride worthwhile, but the wonderful view is undoubtedly the icing on the cake. You can marvel at the rooftops of the city for around 15 minutes. And if you find yourself in the Prater in the evening, you can also be enchanted by the sparkling rides and the lights of the city. But no matter what time of day you choose: don't forget your Vienna Welcome Card! It will give you great discounts.
Gloriette
Speaking of the most beautiful sights in Vienna: You can enjoy an equally beautiful view of Vienna from the Gloriette. The imperial pavilion towers over the palace gardens and is the perfect vantage point to admire Schönbrunn Palace in all its glory from above. The flat roof was used as a viewing platform as early as the beginning of the 19th century - and you can still climb the stairs to enjoy the view today.
Here, too, don't forget your Vienna Welcome Card and save on admission! Incidentally, you can not only admire the view from the Gloriette, but also treat yourself to an imperial breakfast at Café Gloriette. A little trip back in time included, as Emperor Franz Joseph I traditionally enjoyed his breakfast egg with a view here.
Danube Tower
You can go really high up in the Danube Tower. The express lift takes you up to a height of 150 meters in no time at all, where the 360-degree panoramic terrace is eagerly awaiting you. From here, you have a truly spectacular view of the whole of Vienna - and beyond to the Rax, the Schneeberg and even as far as Bratislava.
But that's not all: in addition to culinary delights in the restaurant and café, you can also get a good dose of adrenaline on the highest slide in Europe. This takes you from a height of 165 meters over a 40-meter-long track back to the viewing platform - at speeds of up to 18 km/h.
Dachboden in the 25hours Hotel
Fancy a drink with a view? If you prefer to enjoy the Viennese skyline with a cocktail in your hand, we can only warmly recommend the Dachboden at the 25hours Hotel. Take the glass elevator straight up to the cosy bar with circus flair. Large sofas and long tables are ideal for getting lost with your loved one and really enjoying the fantastic view of the surrounding ring buildings. In addition, cool DJs always provide the right sounds to accompany your favorite drinks and bar snacks.
