Mayer am Pfarrplatz: the traditional Heuriger

Rumor has it that it is one of the best wine taverns in Vienna and we can only testify to that. Mayer am Pfarrplatz is an absolute classic and should not be missed on any visit to Vienna. The wine is even better in the cozy, rustic garden under romantic vine arbors. Delicious wine has a long tradition here, as it has been served in the listed suburban house in Heiligenstadt since 1683. Even Ludwig van Beethoven is likely to have enjoyed a glass or two, as the composer lived and worked here in 1817 - including on his 9th Symphony.

Josefstadt wine tavern: the city wine tavern

You don't have to leave the city center to experience traditional Viennese wine tavern culture up close - and above all to taste it. The Weinstube Josefstadt is located in the middle of the district of the same name. Tucked away in an inner courtyard, it is the perfect retreat to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a while. At the Heurigen buffet, you can put together your own plate of delicacies to suit your mood - from fine spreads and genuine Viennese classics to creative seasonal delicacies. By the way, you are welcome to stay for a while and soak up the relaxed atmosphere between the vine arbors and fairy lights - the kitchen will serve you until 9.45 pm.

Heuriger Edlmoser: the insider tip

Heuriger Edlmoser is one of the oldest and most renowned wine taverns in Vienna and is still a little insider tip among wine connoisseurs and fans of a good Brettljause. Located in the picturesque district of Mauer in Vienna's 23rd district, you can expect the perfect blend of tradition and elegance, accompanied by award-winning wines from our own vineyards and homemade Heurigen specialties.

Fun fact: The Maurerberg is the world's only wine-growing area within the boundaries of a capital city - a must-see.

Wieninger am Nussberg: the wine tavern

Do you know the small but subtle difference between a Heuriger and a Buschenschank? Easy to confuse, but absolutely essential when talking to true Heurigen fans: while Heurigen are open all year round, Buschenschenken are only open at certain times. One of our favorite wine taverns in Vienna is the Wieninger am Nussberg. Here you can not only enjoy outstanding Viennese wines, which come directly from the surrounding vineyards, but also a spectacular view of the city. With red and white wines, sparkling wine, grape juices as well as the finest Buschenschank cuisine and homemade cakes, you will be well looked after here.

Wine craft: The plant-based

Relaxed, modern ambience with a good pinch of Viennese flair: you'll find this unbeatable combination at the Weinhandwerk organic winery. Located on the outskirts of Vienna, this Viennese wine tavern insider tip conjures up creative tapas dishes made from wild herbs and specialties from mountain farming regions - vegetarian or vegan options are also available. Even the bread is home-baked here and, in addition to classic red and white wines, you can also sample orange wine and sherry for a change. In addition to the delicious delicacies, cool events such as yoga and concerts await your visit in summer.

Heuriger Maly: the classic

No other Viennese district is as famous for its wines, Brettljausen snacks and Heurigen hospitality as the wine village of Grinzing. Vienna's best wine taverns invite you onto their terraces under the vine arbors on every corner. One of our favorites is Heuriger Maly. Traditional Austrian cuisine is served here as well as classic Heurigen delicacies and Grandma Ute's milk cream strudel for those with a sweet tooth. With its rustic interior and secluded garden, Heuriger Maly is the ideal place to forget the hustle and bustle of the city with a spritzer or a storm.
