Spring is finally back in Vienna! Our clocks are set to summer time, the days are getting longer and warmer. Perfect conditions for your holiday in the capital: whether it's music, sport or culture, we have the best event tips for you to really enjoy your stay.

April, April, I'll do what I want: a holiday in Vienna! When the Easter bells ring, many people are drawn to a trip to the city of music. No wonder, as the days are finally warmer again and therefore just right for a relaxed stroll through the beautiful streets. April in Vienna also has a lot to offer culturally, from festivals and markets to balls and sporting events. We'll show you which events you definitely shouldn't miss this month.

Tip: With the Vienna Welcome Card, you can not only use all public transport operated by Wiener Linien, but also get great discounts on attractions and experiences.

Marvel at the Easter markets

A stroll through the first district is an experience at any time of year. In April, you can also stroll past lovingly decorated market stalls and sample numerous brands of eggnog. From 3 to 21 April, you can also admire the largest egg mountain in Europe at the Altwiener Ostermarkt on Freyung: Around 40,000 painted Easter eggs are piled up here every year. From 4.30 p.m. there is also some great live music. Nestled in the old town centre, you will also find the Am Hof Easter market, open from 4 to 21 April. You can see and buy jewellery, leather goods, ceramics, lots of handicrafts and a large selection of eggnog and lavender products. You're sure to find the perfect Easter gift for your loved ones.

For all Schönbrunn fans: the Easter market at Schönbrunn was unfortunately discontinued in 2025. A visit to the palace is still worthwhile - especially with the Schönbrunn discounts of the Vienna Welcome Card.

Visit the opera

Are you a fan of the great classics? Whether it's Salome, Parsifal or The Magic Flute, the Vienna State Opera offers you an impressive programme every day. The events are very popular with locals and tourists alike - so if you want to secure a really good seat, it's best to book your ticket two months in advance. If you are not put off by long standing times with short breaks on the steps, you can also book directly on the day of the performance. The 435 standing places are sold online and at the Bundestheater box offices from 10 am. In addition, a fixed contingent can be purchased at the standing room box office from 80 minutes before the start.

By the way: To fortify yourself for the event, you can visit one of the neighbouring coffee houses in the posh first district. How about the famous Café Mozart behind the opera, for example? The Vienna Welcome Card even gives you a nice discount here.

Dancing at the Refugee Ball

Make sure you pack your dancing shoes for your trip. At the Refugee Ball on 5 April, you can float across the dance floor for a charitable cause: Your ticket purchase will support the organising Integrationshaus, which provides accommodation and care for refugees. You can dance to Balkan rhythms, pop rock or Congolese rumba. Bonus: You also get a direct insight into the beautiful town hall. And at the open-air disco in the Arkadenhof, you can admire the starry sky over Vienna.

Whisky tasting

The Vienna Whisky Festival at the Ottakringer Brewery is a fixed date for all spirits virtuosos, providing liquid delights for the palate from 4 to 5 April. Here you can taste your way through around 70 different brands from all over the world and discover your new favourite whisky. In the exclusive masterclasses, you will learn everything there is to know about the cult drink and taste the fine spirits together with international experts. Tip: Have your camera ready, as traditionally dressed bagpipers may stop by from time to time.

And don't forget: The best way to get to and from the tasty festival is to use the Vienna Welcome Card - your all-round ticket for the city's public transport system.

Enjoy the music

The Blues Spring Festival kicks off the musical festival calendar from 20 March to 31 May. Here, numerous national and international musicians are offered a stage to showcase the incredible diversity of the genre. Blues not your thing? Then you can listen to Arabic sounds at the Salam Music & Arts Festival from 28 March to 6 April. On top of that, there are impressive art performances to experience. Lovers of classic Viennese songs will get their money's worth at the iconic wean hean from 26 April to 18 May: here you can get to know all facets of this traditional music and gain a special insight into the history of the city and its inhabitants.

Stay sporty

Sports fans should definitely not miss out on Europe's biggest bike festival: During the Bike Festival on 12 and 13 April, the entire Rathausplatz will be in bike fever. There will be spectacular races and shows, such as the Dirt Battle, where dirt jumpers will show off their coolest tricks and jumps, accompanied by motivating DJ sounds. The big bike fair offers you a great overview of all the new trends and models. You can also try out the latest models for yourself on the test tracks for e-mountainbikes and e-bikes. If you want to get rid of your old bike or buy something cheap, you can try your luck at the big bike flea market. There are also plenty of competitions and children's offers to discover at the Bike Festival.
