There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing? Know-it-all sentences like this are not necessarily helpful when the storm outside the window is dampening your mood. Our tips for rainy days in Vienna are hopefully all the more useful. We have put together a colorful program for grey hours and show you how you can spend a successful city trip despite fog, drizzle, snowstorms and the like. Make sure you grab a Vienna Welcome Card, which gives you lots of benefits for public transport, cabs and other mobility options to keep you dry on your way through Vienna.

Book Café Phil
Comfortable sofas, a cozy atmosphere, coffee and cake - that's how we imagine an afternoon in a coffee house. At Buchcafé Phil, you can also browse through books from a wide range of genres, as this coffee house is also a bookshop. If you blink into a gray hole of fog when you first look out of the window in the morning, then you can find refuge there all day long: Because the menu is filled with wonderful breakfast combinations, lunches, snacks and pastries. We can easily spend an entire rainy weekend here.
Furniture museum
Vienna is known for its stylish architecture and impressive buildings. But it's not just the city's facades that are a feast for the eyes: its interiors also exude a very special charm. In the furniture museum in the 7th district, you can immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Viennese interior design. The extensive collection of furniture from the imperial era is particularly exciting and provides an insight into the everyday life of Sisi and co. The exhibition is complemented by interactive stations and special exhibitions that show the connection between historical and modern furnishing trends. The Vienna Welcome Card is also worthwhile here, as it gives you a 10 percent discount on admission.
Gartenbaukino
The Gartenbaukino is not only a rain refuge, but also a place for cinematic enjoyment. As one of the last great premiere cinemas in Vienna, it captivates with the flair of past film eras. So you can also experience a piece of Viennese history during a visit to the cinema, because everything from the white splash at the buffet to the theater-like layout of the auditorium with its small stage screams: 1960s! The cinema, which was built in 1919, was rebuilt in the same place. The Gartenbaukino not only shows a whole host of arthouse films and niche movies, but also hosts cool events such as the live stream of Oscar night, award ceremonies, film festivals and concerts.
Amalienbad
When the bad weather rages outside, we long for warmth and comfort. You'll find what you're looking for in Vienna's indoor pools. One of our favorites is the Amalienbad in the 10th district, where you can swim your laps under a glass roof in the midst of beautiful Viennese Art Nouveau architecture. And if you really want to work up a sweat, you'll be spoiled for choice between Finnish, bio, steam and infrared saunas. Getting there is very easy: take the U1 to Reumannplatz, from there you can't miss the Amalienbad.
IKONO
Is the gloomy weather getting on your nerves during your city trip? Then it's time for an interactive fantasy journey. IKONO Vienna is a new immersive experience in the heart of the city, at Mariahilfer Straße 54. The different worlds, where art, play and all kinds of unexpected things come together, are an unforgettable experience, especially for young children. But the interactive spaces are also a recommended bad-weather activity for adults - the creative journey takes you to different places far away from the Viennese downpour. Good news to lift your spirits even further: The Vienna Welcome Card gives you a 20 percent discount on admission.
Burgtheater
You can experience Vienna on your city trip even if you don't want to spend much time outside in the city due to the cold, drizzle or fog. After all, bad weather offers an ideal opportunity to familiarize yourself with Vienna's theater culture: Let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Burgtheater, for example. As one of the most important stages in Europe, it offers a diverse program of classical and modern plays, interpreted by first-class actors. Even a visit to the imposing building, with its impressive architecture and historic ambience, is an experience in itself. Whether it's an elegant evening at the theater or a guided backstage tour, where you can take a look behind the scenes - you can spend exhilarating moments here even on a gloomy day.
