  • The former imperial country estate now presents itself as an atmospheric stage for eventful journeys through time into the fascinating world of the Baroque.

The baroque work of art Schloss Hof extends over more than fifty hectares. Built for the legendary general Prince Eugene of Savoy, it was expanded into the largest country palace complex in Austria under Empress Maria Theresa. A stately residential building, an artistic terraced garden and a tranquil mansion with lovable animals combine to create an ensemble of imperial splendor and rural idyll. Today there are events and festivals for the whole family as well as special exhibitions that change every year.

The castle

The palace's magnificently furnished rooms provide an insight into imperial living spaces. While Maria Theresia and her son Emperor Joseph II indulged in classicism, the client Prinz Eugen returns to the Belétage with the most modern exhibition technology and stylistic elements of his time.

The gardens (open in winter depending on the weather)

Even more than the castle, the baroque garden, laid out on seven terraces gently sloping down to the March, aroused the admiration of contemporaries in the 18th century. The artistic broderie beds, dreamy arcades and richly decorated fountains serve today, as they did back then, as an idyllic refuge for relaxing hours. With the completion of the 7th garden terrace, the baroque garden is complete and invites you to stroll and slow down.

The estate

One of the largest baroque estates in Central Europe is an idyllic setting for numerous themed gardens such as herb, snack or Weinviertel farm gardens and a refuge for many rare domestic animal breeds of old Austrian origin. The exhibition "Showcase Europe: The Banat" can be seen in the Bäckenhof, which tells the eventful history of this extraordinary cultural region of Banat in today's Romania.
